Kara no Kyoukai 5 - Paradox Spiral of Amazing

Published by jennkei under Kara no Kyoukai, anime Edit This

Episode 5 revolves around a strange redheaded young man called Enjou Tomoe, who, after being saved from a few thugs by Shiki, bums around at her place. And eats a lot of strawberry Haagen Dazs ice cream!

It seems this goes on for a very, very long while — at least a month or so? At the rate of one small container of ice cream a day. -wry- Where does he get money to eat and stuff? Or wash his laundry?! His one piece of clothes? XD

At almost two hours long (1h53mins!), the fifth Kara no Kyoukai (Garden of Sinners) movie is longer than many films currently in the cinema (I think) — while it starts off slowly, it builds up to a spectacular revelation. And though it ends somewhat predictably, it’s the journey that matters, isn’t it? There were parts that reminded me a lot of what I would call a great mystery novel — enough clues to puzzle the viewers, yet it all fits together like the pieces of a well-oiled puzzle (wait, I think I mixed my metaphors up..) . I admit it’s a bit more gory than I’m used to, and a lot of parts had me gasping in horror…

And while I don’t think Touko is as awesome as in the previous ep (Sigh, opening a briefcase just isn’t as cool as calling runes..), I have renewed respect for Shiki’s prowess as a fighter.

Even if you haven’t watched the previous four movies, or weren’t very happy at a few of them (I know I was disappointed by the first one), give this a try and you might love it as much as I do. Read on for spoilers and all 146 screenshots (I cut it down from 178! XD Captions tomorrow). Continue Reading »

Kara no Kyoukai 4 - Awakening

Published by jennkei under Kara no Kyoukai, anime Edit This

The start of this 46-minute aniplex, Kodana, Notes and ufotable production is amusing, as always; touching on how noise shouldn’t be allowed in the theatre. I still liked the previous one, where Shiki cut the handphone, more. -wry-

KnK 4 is set in 1996, and begins with Shiki being rushed to hospital, profusely bleeding and in her iconic red kimono. Her dreamstate as she recovers is filled with strange symbols. Wait, make that her actual view is filled with strange symbols as well…including disconcerting images of people falling apart. :/

Is it me, or did gg omit a part of the title? You can have a look at the characters for the title on the screenshots at the gallery or the slideshow at the end of this post (click on more)…it seems to say ‘The Hole/Hollow in the Temple’ (instead of just “The Hollow”), which would make sense because at one point of the episode, Aozaki comments on how Shiki is empty inside and has to rebuild the temple (of her mind?). Also, after Aozaki draws runes with her cigarette and the living corpse is still shambling on, she comments that her ‘Ansuz’ wasn’t enough — Ansuz is a rune. I thought I’d heard Ansatz, which would make more sense since it means setup/starting point…. Still, awesome fast subs. :) Continue Reading »
