Shangri-La 1 - Overpowered Boomerang!
I was going to title this ep “Carbon is the Root of All Evil”, but decided Overpowered Boomerang was more accurate. Shangri-La starts off with a somewhat-tantalising scene of someone undressing…we find out her name is Kuniko (though it was hard to tell from the people chanting her name), and she seems to be getting released from some kind of detention facility.
The OP (May’n’s Kimi Shinitamo Koto Nakare) is nice enough, and features the same strange scene in the commercial — Kuniko KOing some tanks with her boomerang. -wry- Kuniko is part of a group called Metal Age, a small antigovernment rebellion cell. Meanwhile, there’s an important loli person..whose character design reminds me of the Guild people in Last Exile. Unfortunately, the drawing isn’t nearly as polished. :(
There’s some political stuff going on about countries imposing a tax on carbon emissions..and a new system of ‘economic carbon’ instead of actual carbon emissions. In any case, the town Kuniko’s in gets attacked by the military because Metal Age has been (illegally) wrecking havoc with the carbon market.
I had high hopes for this one, but it was a bit hard to understand. :S Worth a mention, though, is the pretty-hot okama who wields a whip and has a kiss attack…and pretty much fells a squadron of military guys by kissing them. No kidding. Then there’s also that girl who looks like a guy, but who’s much less interesting..
