[*Whatever By The Books*]

I was actually going to do Shangri-La today, but I’m STILL doing bits of my report…so you get a post I’d done up yesterday, against my better judgement.

I guess I shouldn’t have expected much from Gokujou!! Mecha Motte Iinchou, but I know I didn’t expect it to be quite this bad. It’s an awkward blend of 2D and 3D. While the last 3D anime I watched, Hoshi no Umi no Amuri, was stunning, this one was just…strange. The movements were awkward, and the transitions between 2D and 3D puzzling.

In any case, GMMI seems to be about a girl with a rather inflated idea of herself. “Someone as beautiful and wonderful as me..” She takes it upon herself to get Toujou, one of three lazy-but-popular guys, to join the sports meet. When puppy dog eyes don’t work, she grabs his phone and gets him to chase her to get it back, or he’ll have to join the meet. He manages to do so…and tells her that he doesn’t want to run because he can’t see past the goal. Wharh?

Turns out he used to be an awesome sprinter, but was in an accident shortly before the last track and field meet in junior high. Wait…haven’t I heard this in Hanakimi before? Except Ashiya is certainly more appealing than this Kitagami Mimi. -wry-

Also worth a mention is a Hamtaro-like creature called temotemo..in any case, Mimi gets the chance to join the club of Beautiful People (i.e. the Princess Rose Club, or Purikura. Wait, aren’t those sticker photos? :P) — except, of course, she thinks she’s so great she doesn’t need the club. Ugh. Scary laugh too. She goes along anyway, and finds out they’re a rather insular club, so she refuses to join. But this ganguro girl wants to join, for some reason…so they take up a challenge to turn her into a princess in a month’s time. Yamato Nadeshiko Shichi Henge/Pretty Woman, anyone?

Sadly-unoriginal. The hook ALMOST got me wanting to see how it goes, but the preview for next ep successfully kills that.
