Clannad After Story Specials + Final Verdict
Clannad is one of those very few anime I’ve actually gone through two seasons of. If you knew about my teeny attention span, I generally avoid anime with more than 20 episodes. And it’s also true that I didn’t actually really finish watching the entirety of Clannad — there’re a handful of episodes from the first season I skipped. :P Screenshots only for 23/special 1 below..(since 24/special 2 is a recap ep)
Nonetheless, it’s been a ride. I’m a bit disappointed that they chose to end it with what I felt was a rather boring episode…the special, 23, detailed light school life a year before Tomoya and Nagisa had met. Interesting, yes. Kinda sad to see Kyou express some interest in Tomoya. But I would really have preferred to see either a super fast forward (Ushio grown up?) or something regarding the other characters’ After Story — we don’t see a lot of that.
24 wraps up the series with a summary episode — which reminded me of the ones Chobits had. I still teared up at some of the bits. All in all, a wonderful series — though some bits can’t quite be explained, and require some suspension of belief (this is only incongruous cos quite a few bits are rooted in realism -wry-).

@Jay-san: Haha! Things that clearly mark the anime as fantasy, when quite a few bits are things I can identify with… Things like…Nagisa’s illness, Misae’s arc, and, of course, Fuko’s astral projection (? ._.). The light orbs occur throughout the anime and are kinda explained — the transition from ‘Tomoya given a second chance’ to ‘Tomoya collects light orbs’ is just what isn’t quite explicitly mentioned. Of course, that in itself is a little piece of fantasy too! :)
