Maria Holic 12 - Kyun and Peace!
Maria Holic. 12 is a puzzler, much like the rest of the series has been. A whirlwind, yes, and fun too. Screenshots, etc. I wanted to put this pic as the entry pic, but just in case people say it’s NSFW. :P
I guess the main gripe I have is if I thought the previous eps felt disjointed…12 felt all the more disjointed, being split up into several parts. While the collective episode title goes something like “Bishoujo Heaven Swimming Meet with nude scene”, it’s split up into..
1: What, All a Dream?
As the title says. I didn’t really read it before I watched it, so I found it pretty amusing…Ame no Kisaki’s ‘law’ that everyone could wear whatever swimming costumes they wanted. :P And the best thing..everyone wanting to give Kanako CPR.
Honoka: Miyamae-san’s lips belong to me!
Of course, it was all a dream. XD She’d missed the ceremony because of getting food poisoning from eating raw liver.
2: Father Kanae Again
Kanae brings a melon to Kanako, and goes off on theories about the Tchaikovsky Syndrome again. -wry- Somehow I don’t find him funny…he talks too fast, and generates too many subs for me to read. T_T Not to mention poor Kanako goes into hysterics whenever he’s around. XD Because of hives, Kanako misses the first swimming lesson.
3: A New Challenger Arrives!
Pranks are played on Kanako…because of Kanae’s fanclub. TBC?!
4: Detective Girl Kanako’s Last Case
Kanako eats too much and is unable to go for the swimming lesson. Missed again!
5: GOD’s Memories of Summer
Kanako sees GOD having strange expressions over her swimsuit, and unspeakable things happen to her. No swimming lesson again..-wry-
6: The Last Swimming Lesson
Unfortunately, even though Kanako is fine this time, it rains and the lesson is cancelled..
7: The All-Girl Swimming Meet
Kanako gets subliminally conditioned to like fundoshi on guys and hate how school swimming costumes look. Good one, Mariya and Matsurika! XD
Voice on tape: Sukumizu saiyaku, fundoshi saikou!! (School swimming costumes suck, fundoshi rock!)
Kanako is thus unable to fully-appreciate the event.
Kanako: Boku wa…fundoshi ga..suki da!!
She decides to take revenge on Mariya by divesting her of her sukumizu (and revealing the latter’s fake boobs) during the Kibasen. Unfortunately, it was Shizu, not Mariya…poor Shizu. -wry- Nice boobies, though. XD
And yup, that’s it. I’ll write my final impressions some other time. But like some people have been saying, it seems rather like there’d be a second season — especially with how Shizu reacted to Kanako’s rosary. (I think Mariya had reacted similarly in the past — not sure whether it was in the anime, but definitely in the manga.) Funnily enough, they started some dramatic music, then ended it suddenly there. XD It’s anyone’s guess what happens..

Too much fanservice this episode that’s for sure :P
I wouldn’t mind a second season - I’m still rather disappointed by the shortness of this series…but then again, the manga hasn’t reached the stage where it warrants a full 24 episode series. And while it’s the same old jokes time and time again, I just can’t seem to get enough of the whackiness of it all. It’s utterly hilarious in all the worst cases of hilarity. Maybe I’m not making any sense here :S But Shaft has done an amazing job in keeping to the spirit of the original and I can’t ask for more than that (animation was good too; I won’t say much about the music though…the original kyun kyun is still subliminally etched into my memory -_-).
Ah well~ -goes back to preparing economics speech-

Hrm, that can’t be right…four volumes and not warranting 24-ep? ._. Haha, it’s not really the same jokes…but it seems opinions regarding Maria Holic have been very polarised. I like it, true, but I have to admit, not much a fan of the disjointedness. :S I agree, though, that animation was great. :) And followed manga VERY closely!

An avrege episode Id’ve say. But the ending was way beyond AWSOME! It was just …” O_O wait ..wot?! ” It let me spechless for a sec ^_^
@INVICTRA: -wry- Yeah, it was sudden. And kinda expected, seeing as it was an unresolved plot point in the manga. I didn’t think they had to drag Kanae’s fan club in during the rest of ep, though. XD
