How to Play: Join up the names! Taking the last syllable/sound of the previous name, suggest another name (of an anime/manga character or seiyuu) with that sound in any part of the name EXCEPT the last syllable. Please post the new name (and the anime/manga it's from) in my shoutbox. (Just above this.) No consecutive entries, please -- you cannot play this one alone. XD
When I get tired of reviewing, I'll pick one character from this list to feature in a post, regardless of whether I previously know him/her or not! :) That page will eventually be linked on this list.
E.g....Hirano Aya (Seiyuu)--> (next one should have 'ya' in the name, NOT in the end) Okuyama Masumi (Nodame Cantabile) --> Misato Kaoru (Moyashimon).......

Winter Anime Lookback, Night Watch, and Textbook Spending

Published by jennkei at 9:45 pm under 2009 Winter, anime, misc ranting Edit This

Image Hosted by ImageShack.usAfter a somewhat-disastrous textbook-gaining attempt today, and spending over 200 bucks on ONE textbook and ONE set of dispensing weights (freaking weights! -_-), I feel lazy. It seems I really did spend By the Books…though maybe it’s more like For the Books. T_T

Come to think of it, you might have noticed that the past two weeks, I’ve only been watching..
-Kemono no Souja Erin
-Koukaku no Regios
-Maria Holic
-Sora wo Kakeru Shoujo
-kinda Clannad After Story

What happened to the rest of the anime in the winter season? (The previous season is a lost cause. XD) So yeah…Munto seems like it’s prematurely ended, Natsume Yuujinchou is just a bit too depressing for me. Hetalia is cool, I should actually watch those small episodes now.. Genji is a bit hard to follow. Kurokami didn’t really interest me, nor did White Album. Is there anything you’ve been watching that you think is worth it? (Please don’t suggest Akikan. -wry-)

Anyway! I read The Martian Child yesterday — got it for $2 from Basement Books. I like the writing, but it got a bit mumbojumbly at the end. ._. Am currently reading Sergei Lukyanenko’s The Night Watch — got it for $2.70 from Co-op after $20 voucher that I got from a focus group about the intarwebz/uni technology use. ^^ I’m only 100 pages in, but it’s pretty awesome! What was the last book you read, and how was it?

Lesse… Last Series I went totally nuts about was “Night Watch.” After reading the first one, I ended up buying Day Watch, Twilight Watch, and Last Watch, as well as the movies “Night Watch” and “Day Watch” within the week. Well worth it, especially to see how Anton changes and to see how the Twilight/Gloom idea is developed.

Well, out of all the series that I started over the summer I am now following six of them: White Album, Kurokami, Asu no Yoichi, Chrome Shelled Regios, Hetalia and Maria Holic. There are only a couple that I am following faithfully but for some reason all of these series still call out to me.

Can’t wait for the spring season to start! ^_^

@Achariyth: I’m done with the first part in the first book! I have to admit it all tied up together a bit too tightly, but it was enjoyable. :) Haha, should be watching the movies tomorrow too. :D I wonder how they were!

@otakureview: Heh, I know you had high praise for White Album. :) How’s Kurokami, though?

@Jay-san: Hrmm. Saa. Some movies do seem like a waste of time, I say. XD Spanking the Maid?! Sounds a bit like one of those Silk Stockings or nexus books..XD

@Jay-san: What I call modern fantasy…aka Elves in Los Angeles, Harry Potter (not so much since the focus is on Wizarding rather than the Muggle side), etc. Though…I didn’t know Lost had fantasy elements. ._. Never got into that series, though — but I reckon Heroes might qualify for magic realism. :)

@Jay-san: Hrmm. Let’s agree to disagree, since I seem to picked up on my mom’s ‘fall asleep when bored watching something’ habit. -wry- Magical-realistic?! I’ve never heard about those..

I was gonna say Nexus books, but those sound rather innocuous. XD Logical assumption from the title, I say! XD

I laughed at this part… “Prominent English-language fantasy writers have stated that “magic realism” is only another name for fantasy fiction. Gene Wolfe said, “Magic realism is fantasy written by people who speak Spanish,”[7], and Terry Pratchett said magic realism “is like a polite way of saying you write fantasy”.[8]”

Modern fantasy, perhaps? From what I see while reading it up on wiki..

Gahhh, it won’t let me comment on my own post, stupid Wordpress. -_-

@Jay-san: Oh, nah, it kept going ‘duplicate comment detected’…must have been bugging out on me. I thought Lost was about people on an island! They had powers too?! XD

And haha, HRG is one of the guys who’s completely normal…but somehow fearlessly so…
