[*Whatever By The Books*]

It’s rare that I’d say an anime surpasses the manga, but I’m liking Maria Holic so far so much that I’d definitely say the anime is just as good as or even better than the manga. :)

The fourth episode of Maria Holic opens with a little surprise for people who’ve been attentive to the OP. There’ve definitely been some colour changes — a few of the screenshots I managed to catch are below, or just visit the gallery.

In episode four, which corresponds to the manga’s chapter 7, Ryuuken becomes serious about her claim to protect Kanako, following her everywhere, and even sleeping over in her dorm room.

At night, the two of them have a chat, and Kanako realises the reason Ryuuken is going to such trouble on her behalf is because she hates being excluded. Once, when she was younger, her dog (Saneatsu) ran away and got knocked down by a car, but her family kept it a secret from her because they were worried she’d be upset. Similarly, she was never told that Saneatsu was bullied by the house cat, Kohime. It seems the bullying Kanako was victim to reminded Ryuuken of her past experiences..

 Also, niisama! They call it ’sick bay’ in this ep! :D

Worth a mention: The omake for this ep lasted almost 3 minutes, and ended with Mariya’s foot on Kanako’s face. -wry- Also: Friday the 13th reference? “Oniichan! You’ve been using my chainsaw again! Once the blood gets on it, it’s impossible to clean!” XD
