[News] Hetalia: Axis Powers’s TV Run CANCELLED!
If only Korea and Japan were more like UK and US in this picture.
The Hetalia anime has been CANCELLED and will not be showing on Japanese terrestrial TV (Kids Station). It’s a pity because I really was looking forward to it. :(
Fans of the series will, however, be able to catch a slice of the action with once-weekly net releases on animate.tv — and if you’re in Japan, you can catch it on yer mobile as well. Unfotunately, after having a look around animate.tv’s site…it seems several episodes of other anime are pay-per-view…around 100-200yen (generally 105) per. -wry- Well. Not sure if online fans can even view it after all..on the other hand, Akikan! is streaming for free, but that’s Bandai. (And I can’t access the video either. :S) We’ll have to wait and see, I guess.
Speculation abound regarding why the show was cancelled — most agree it’s something to do with them Koreans. But as pointed out several times, Korea doesn’t even show up in the anime, for chrissakes..so it could be just an excuse. More ominous theories talk about death threats. It seems some people just can’t enjoy anime without there being something political about it…even when it’s meant to be satirical.

Well, Korea ’supposedly’ doesn’t appear in the anime. AnimeVice pointed out that ‘Korea’ is (was? I haven’t double checked) listed among the characters on the official anime website.
What’s the big deal with Koreans here anyways? I’m confuddled. :-P
Hetalia is the free streaming video in animate.tv.
Each episode is released by a limited time offer (probably one week).
The episode which passed over the time limit is released for pay.
I examined the quality of some sample video.
Video quality is not so good though regrettable.

@kaguya: Ohhh, thanks for that! Where did you find the news about Hetalia being free to air..?
I tried but my browser or system didn’t work…both IE and Firefox. So I was wondering whether it was a region thing. :S
