Maria Holic 1 - “Omae wa…LESBIAN.”
The second of the new-season 2008-2009 winter anime to show, MariaHolic is MUCH more promising than Akikan! — it is obvious SHAFT put a lot more thought into it. -wry- The animation is a bit…different from usual. (I’m told it’s SHAFT’s style.) Still, I like it since it’s pretty cute — even the SD is the same as the manga. XD Maria+Holic tells the story of Kanako, who enrols in an all-girl catholic school (Ame no Kisaki) in an attempt to find her ideal (female) partner. However, the first person she meets is the sarcastic maid…of a beautiful cross-dresser called Maria?!
Read on for a few thoughts as well as a slideshow of the 38 screenshots I took — or just visit the screenshot gallery.I guess I’m amused at Kanako more than annoyed by her verbosity mostly because I’ve read the manga, and she exaggerates as much there as well. XD Only gripe I have is a very minor one — that Maria and Kanako sound just slightly too old to be high school students. Still, they have nice pleasant voices — and Kobayashi Yu’s (Kaere from Zetsubou Sensei, Setsuna from Negima!?) male voice is deliciously jarring coupled with Maria’s pretty face. XD The church-like music playing during the kiss was quite funny.
I’m not very happy with Sukisubs, though. XD While they’re speed subbers, true, at least take pride in your subs, TL… — “Earful” tower?! (Eiffel, isn’t it?) Kanoko instead of Kanako a few times..Ryouken instead of Ryuuken. Still, a very good preview of something that I’ll definitely be following, at this point.
I know. The Subs were rushed but who cares! We got to savior the funniness that is Mariaholic from them first!
