Eve no Jikan 3 - The Twist
Again, another interesting episode with a good twist. The Ethics Committee starts on a (human) love campaign, amidst hot debate about whether androids could/should be partners. Fittingly, this episode touches on the couple that’s always lovey dovey in a corner — Koji and Rina — and boy did I not guess the truth of the matter!
Anyone else notice it’s generally always the same regulars in the cafe? XD Slideshow and some spoilers if you click on more, or just visit the gallery to see comments/screenshots.
Rina’s voice is unexpectedly mature, which I like, since it adds depth to her character. Rikuo and Masaki are ‘forced’ by the wellmeaning owner of Eve no Jikan to speak to Rina and Koji. Cue lots of awkward silences, until Rikuo finds and messes with Koji’s Gigapixel camera phone. It actually seems quite chunky for the future. XD (And only 500 pictures?) Still, the M link option is funky, creating a hologram which allows picture selection in mid-air. Of course, there are some incriminating pictures within — none of Rina, and a few of another woman.
Rina reacts as any woman would, and leaves for a bit — but her leg spasm was an indicator to me that she’s an android, but it seems Koji doesn’t notice.. At that point, I would have put it up to a regular human male/android female pairing, but aha! Rikuo follows Rina, and finds her looking at the wires in her leg. She tells him about how she is a bodyguard for someone important, and cannot visit a mechanic because an information leak might be harmful to her master. Koji treats her as a human…
Because he doesn’t know otherwise? Meanwhile, Masaki talks to him, and finds out that he is an android as well! The way Rina acted towards him reminded her of his master, whom he thinks depends overly on him. His aim is to ’save his master’ — to find out how to bring her into a healthy relationship (with another human). It’s following the first robot directive, actually — to help humans if they need it.
In other words, both of them think the other is human. Like Rikuo says - “It’s like a normal relationship.”
I’m somewhat annoyed, though, that the next three eps will only be showing next spring. T_T SIGH LONG WAIT.
