Eve no Jikan 1&2 - Fate vs Free Will
Eve no Jikan is a fascinating anime revolving around the protagonist, Rikuo, gradually being aware of his family’s android (Sammy) having free will.
It raises the popular question of what we would do if androids were so like humans as to be indistinguishable from us — which is what happens in Eve no Jikan, a cafe where humans and androids coexist without discrimination. In the outside world, androids are expressionless and behave as their masters tell them to, working all the while with a digital halo that immediately gives away their status. People who treat androids like humans are given the derisive nickname Dori-kei (Short for Droid Group/Inclination).
Visit the gallery for episode 2’s screenshots, or read on for the slideshow of the shots, as well as a (very) brief summary of what happens in 1-2.
In episode one, when Rikuo investigates Sammy’s movements one day, he’s led to the cafe Eve no Jikan…where androids remove their haloes, and can laugh, chatter, and generally behave like regular humans. Rikuo remains rather rude in episode two, constantly wanting to find out more about the perceived versus actual differences between robots and humans — but he also finds Sammy in the act of getting coffee for their family at Eve no Jikan.
While he reacts with startlement and some proprietary anger (”But she’s mine!”), it seems that with some understanding, he would become receptive to the idea of androids with independent thought.
Meanwhile, a mysterious man calls Rikuo’s friend ‘Blade Runner’…and mentions a Suppression Circuit in his report to a certain Chairman Ashimori.
I think the only thing I have against this anime is the ED is far too happy. XD -laughs- And reminds me of Jumanji or Flubber or something!
