Kara no Kyoukai 4 - Awakening
The start of this 46-minute aniplex, Kodana, Notes and ufotable production is amusing, as always; touching on how noise shouldn’t be allowed in the theatre. I still liked the previous one, where Shiki cut the handphone, more. -wry-
KnK 4 is set in 1996, and begins with Shiki being rushed to hospital, profusely bleeding and in her iconic red kimono. Her dreamstate as she recovers is filled with strange symbols. Wait, make that her actual view is filled with strange symbols as well…including disconcerting images of people falling apart. :/
Is it me, or did gg omit a part of the title? You can have a look at the characters for the title on the screenshots at the gallery or the slideshow at the end of this post (click on more)…it seems to say ‘The Hole/Hollow in the Temple’ (instead of just “The Hollow”), which would make sense because at one point of the episode, Aozaki comments on how Shiki is empty inside and has to rebuild the temple (of her mind?). Also, after Aozaki draws runes with her cigarette and the living corpse is still shambling on, she comments that her ‘Ansuz’ wasn’t enough — Ansuz is a rune. I thought I’d heard Ansatz, which would make more sense since it means setup/starting point…. Still, awesome fast subs. :)
I was wondering why Shiki’s hair was longer, and shocked when they said it’s been two years since Kokutou has been waiting for Shiki. She speaks to Aozaki as a councellor, and we realise that she has a composite dual personality with a male Shiki within her. Aozaki is also the one who firsts names her ability as the Mystic Eyes of Death Perception, and strengthens her will to live.
Funnily enough, Kokutou sings ‘Singing in the Rain’ in this episode, and his singing/English is actually not bad! I loved this bit, because it lapsed into an awesome fight sequence. Oh my god, Aozaki is so cool. But Shiki is fantastic as well, even though the action is kinda short. XD Still, a good first attempt for using her powers in actual combat. :) Afterwards, she accepts Aozaki’s proposal to work in exchange for being taught about her powers.
After all that counselling, she finally meets Kokutou once more. Typically tsundere, she says something brash while thinking that he’s the only one who’s always been protecting and waiting for her.
Frankly, I have no idea what’s going on when I watch KnK. The skipping timeline, along with some things that seem to be expected prior knowledge (I asked niisama about some of them; can’t remember which, exactly, at the moment), as well as the long gap between episodes…might well mean I have to watch it again when it’s finished. -wry- Still, KnK 4 is a good explanatory episode, and also stands alone well. I didn’t really enjoy the ED…nothing’s quite the same as Obrivious. XD This one is Kalafina’s Aria, and has a slight tribal feeling to it.
The last three minutes seem to talk about some healer dude, and also includes a preview for the next episode (Paradox Spiral)…? At least it’s set in 1998…no weird timeskips!

I have just one word to say: Pureawesomeness. Yes - that is one word :P
Can’t wait till the next movie though. It looks even more cooler XD
